Charlie

As usual we are very happy to bring you all yet another one of our success stories. These stories not only celebrate their attendance and achievements, but it also gives us all a chance to get to know them a bit better. So this month we turn the spotlight onto one of our own, our extremely talented and inventive trainer Charlie Wong.

We did the usual and asked Charlie if he could answer some questions in his own words. Below are those questions and Charlie’s answers for them.

Q1: How long have you been involved in the health and fitness industry?

Been involved in the health and fitness industry only a short period of time of 6 years. You could say I got into this industry purely by chance and not by choice. Although my wife has been in the health and wellbeing industry for over 20 years working as a Natural Therapist and Kinesiologist there would have been aspects of her practice that would inspired me towards the fitness industry.

If someone was to ask me when I was in my 50’s what I would be doing in my 60’s my answer would have been setting myself up for retirement like any other normal person would. But sorry not for me, retirement has never been on my radar and everyday is a new adventure and we should enjoy it while we can.

Q2: What motivated you to become involved in health, fitness and wellbeing?

Having been very active from secondary school with track and field and also swimming, I believe it helped me throughout my Military career of 23 years. For some people it keeps you motivated to keep fit even when you leave the military. I have always found ways to move and keep active.

Becoming involved in the fitness industry came about by attending a Nordic Walking course in Australia which showed me the benefits of simply walking with poles. It opened the opportunity to be able to instruct and to do that I needed to have a qualification within the Health and Fitness industry.

That spurred me on my journey to being a Personal Fitness Trainer. I have learnt so much about how the body works and being able to help people to move more efficiently gives me great pleasure. That is why I set up my own business 50 Plus Fitness to get people moving again so they can enjoy life now and past retirement.

I find it amazing what the body can do if we practice, and I tend to specialise more with body weight and mobile equipment like sticks, ropes , resistance bands and basically anything you can take away with you and use anywhere.

Q3: How did you find out about PT in the Park?

I would have to put that down to my lovely wife, she somehow saw it on Facebook and suggested I pop along and find out what they did. So I popped along and simply joined in with the group, and then afterwards introduced myself to Kerry and Dena and the rest is history.

Q4: Why did you become involved or decide to donate your time and expertise to PT in the Park?

I think when you become a trainer your ambition is all about helping people, we are in a position to improve people's lives and make them feel good within themselves. I like to volunteer my time to help people at PTITP because they know what they want to achieve, that is why they consistently turn up when they can.

Q5: What do you like best about being a trainer with PT in the Park?

I like the variety of personalities in the trainers and the attendees. We come from all walks of life and being together for an hour is amazing. We are strangers one moment and friends the next, it’s such a great feeling to know we had a part to play in that scenario.

Thanks very much for telling your amazing story Charlie. We all appreciate your dedication and love the innovation you bring to your sessions, and the support of the other trainers at their sessions. We are sure the other trainers and attendees alike are truly inspired by all the wonderful ideas and enthusiasm you show us all.

We love that we can say you are part of the team that makes PT in the Park the success that it is, and truly value your contribution. We always look forward to seeing what you will inspire us with next, and hope to have you as part of the PT in the Park team for a long time to come!
