Quiz Day 2022

The day had finally arrived. It was a typical autumn day in Christchurch, clear but cool. PT in the Park Quiz day had finally arrived. The trustees descended on the TSB space at Turanga to begin setup for our annual fundraising quiz event.

Tables were placed, quiz teams allocated a table, mystery envelopes having been stuffed prior to the day were laid out and the goodies table stocked. Setup took next to no time at all but it flew by and we were ready for our eager quiz attendees to arrive. Once everyone had arrived, including an ovation for the team who turned up late. We were ready to launch into an afternoon of quiz-ness.

The quiz rules were simple enough, 5 rounds each with ten questions in each round including a double points round of each teams choosing. In typical PT in the Park quiz spirit the top spots were highly contested with only a few points splitting the top 3 teams.

Between each of the quiz rounds we held the highly anticipated auctions, there were some fantastic gifts up for grabs including but not limited to an Olympia Gooseneck Mixer tap, an original one of a kind artwork, a unique jewellery piece made from recycled material and our very own PT in the Park branded merchandise. As always, these were hotly contested. Much fun was had bidding and winning these awesome prizes. The winner of the Canterbury Carpet Cleaning voucher was very chuffed with himself, his wife was later heard to exclaim "What are you saying about my carpets?". Well, we know for certain that after they have been through, people will be saying lots of good things about your carpets!

Also up for grabs were our very popular mystery envelopes. The mystery envelopes are available for purchase typically ranging from $1 up to $150. They are filled with vouchers from the donated goodies and each envelope is guaranteed to have a voucher valued much higher than what you purchased it for. This year we added in some vouchers for trainer burpees. The trainers were not as happy as the envelope recipients. The trainers were later seen making their way around the tables offering to purchase up these vouchers at a higher value than original purchase price. We can't wait to see attendees coming along to PT in the Park and cashing in their vouchers. There were rumours going around that there was a trainer voucher for100 burpees... This was very much just a rumour and no such voucher existed, the trainers weren't to know that but it's good to keep them on their toes.

After an intense 5 rounds of questions, mystery envelopes and auctions, we had our winning teams. Taking out the top spots on the day; Team Thank God for the Sally's bring in third on 103 points, Team No Burpees swooping in second on 107 points and Team Opuke taking out the top spot on 109 points.

A big thanks to everyone who attended and donated on the day. We appreciate your continued support. PT in the Park continues to provide free weekly training because of your generosity.

A very special mention and thank you must be made to Jonathan Cartmell, who donated his time in the preceding weeks putting the quiz questions together and MC-ing our event on the day. We hope you had a great time and look forward to welcoming you back as quiz master again next year.

Lastly and certainly not least. Our quiz event would not have been possible without the support from those who donated vouchers and prizes. A big thank you to all, the goodies and vouchers were greatly received.
